Inmate messaging apps are the best way to stay in touch with a friend or relative who is currently in jail. These apps have been specifically designed to meet prison regulations and allow family members as well as friends to send and receive messages and photos, eCards, video calls, and money to their trust account in prison. In addition to these messaging apps, there are many federal inmate apps which provide additional services such as video visitation and phone calls.
The JPay app, for example, enables family and friends to easily transfer money to the trust account of an inmate along with email, photos, eCards and video grams. It also lets them make personalized postcards with personal photos. It's a safer and more secure alternative to regular mail.
Another popular texting app for inmates is GettingOut that provides Contactmeasap "simple and reliable communication" between inmates and their loved family members. The app is accessible at select correctional facilities and allows prisoners to upload photos and send messages to family members and friends using their tablets. It costs inmates $0.25 per message and loved ones pay for the data used to view their messages (but not for explicit images). You can also use the GettingOut application to share images on Facebook or Foursquare and check in on Foursquare and add a video to a YouTube upload.
