Inmate texting apps are a great way to keep in touch with a family member or friend who is currently behind bars. These apps are designed to be in compliance with prison regulations and allow family and friends to send messages, pictures video calls, eCards and money to their prison trust account. In addition to these messaging apps, there are several federal inmate apps that provide additional services like video visitation and phone calls.
The JPay application, for instance allows family and friends to easily transfer money to the trust account of an inmate, as well as pictures, emails as well as eCards, video grams and more. They can also create personalized postcards featuring personal photos. It's a safer and more secure alternative to regular mail.
Another popular app for texting prisoners is GettingOut. It allows "simple reliable, safe communication" between inmates with their loved family members. The app is available at selected correctional facilities and allows inmates to upload photos and communicate with family and friends via their tablets. Inmates pay $0.25 per message, and their loved ones pay the data costs to access them (but not explicit photos). You can also make use of the GettingOut app to share pictures on Facebook or Foursquare and check in on Foursquare and include a video in a YouTube text inmate upload.
